WIATER: Stevens Point Journal Monday, May 14, 1990 Obituary Jeanette G. Thompson Jeanette G. Thompson, 64, 386 Wilson St., Amherst, died Sunday at St. Michael's Hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Amherst. The Rev. R.S. Kolberg will officiate. Burial will be in the Nelsonville Lutheran Cemetery, town of New Hope. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Jungers-Holly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established to the Diabetes Society. Mrs. Thompson was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Milwaukee, daughter of Katherine (Discher) Wiater, Stevens Point, and the late Joe Wiater. She was married to Ole A. Thompson on Aug. 22, 1944. He died June 27, 1966. Survivors include three sons, Gary and John "Grant", both of Mountain, and Ole, Amherst; two daughters, Ginger (Carl) Megal, Amherst and Gayel (Fred) Maves, Stevens Point; five grandchildren; and four sisters, Florence Mansage, Mississippi, Mary Ann (Harlin) Martin, Shawano, Marg (Charles) Koller, Stevens Point and Jo Ann (Don) Hall, Florida. WIATER: Burial: May 15, 1990, Nelsonville Lutheran Cemetery, Town of New Hope, Portage County, WI Last Known Address: 386 Wilson St., Amherst, WI Notes for EMIL (OLE) THOMPSON: Stevens Point Daily Journal Thursday, June 30, 1966 Amherst Man Is Killed At Gravel Plant Emil (Ole) Thompson, 48, of Amherst, was fatally injured shortly after noon Wednesday when he was shoved into a pipe by a dump truck at the Wimme Gravel Plant near Arnott. Thompson, who worked at the Wimme plant, had gone to fill a jug with water from a hose attached to three-quarter inch pipe which was connected to a six-inch pipe. The pipe was used to fill the radiators of the trucks, and the men in gravel pit got their drinking water from the hose connected to the pipe, according to Portage County sheriff's authorities. Thompson was standing near the pipe as Ambrose Pionkowski, Nelsonville, drove up in a dump truck to get water for the truck's radiator. Pionkowski told a sheriff's officer that he tried to stop, and could not and yelled "Ole, watch out! I can't stop!" The truck struck Thompson from behind, shoving him into the three-quarter inch pipe, breaking off the hose and puncturing Thompson's chest. Pionkowski told authorities that the air brakes on the truck refused to work. Thompson was taken to St. Michael's Hospital by Portage County ambulance, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Portage County Coroner Joseph Bodislaw cited laceration of the right lung as the official cause of death. Thompson's chest was punctured by the pipe. Part of which lodged in his chest. Funeral services for Thompson, a wounded World War Ii veteran, will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Nelsonville Lutheran Church, with the Rev. A. P. Tidemann officiating, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at the Jungers Funeral Home, Amherst and at the church after 11 a.m. Saturday. Thompson was born May 11, 1918, in the Town of New Hope, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Thompson, who live in Amherst village. A truck driver for Wimme, he had lived in this area all his life, except for military service. He was in the Army from Aug. 27, 1941, to Sept. 3, 1945, and was overseas from June 1943 to August 1944. He was wounded in July 1943 while serving in the Mediterranean Theater, and was awarded the Purple Heart. Thompson served with the 179th Infantry Regiment and was discharged as a staff sergeant. On Aug. 22, 1944, he was married in the Town of Lanark to the former Jeanette Waiter. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Gary, Waukesha, and John, 11, and Ole, 4, at home; two daughters, Ginger, 16, and Gayle, 13, at home; his parents; five brothers, Raymond, 2008 Strange St., Whiting, Leo, Dancy, Chester, Blanchardville, Robert, Town of Alban, and Sylvester, Amherst; and four sisters, Mrs. Byron (Genevieve) Berg and Mrs. Ed (Virginia) Molaska, Iola, Mrs. Victor (Viola) Peters, Amherst, and Mrs. John (Mary) Swenson, Town of Amherst.
***** Stevens Point Daily Journal Friday July 8, 1966 Thompson Services Funeral services were held Saturday at the Nelsonville Lutheran Church for Emil (Ole) Thompson, 48, Amherst, who was fatally injured June 29 in an industrial accident at the Wimme Gravel Plant near Arnott. The Rev. A. P. Tidermann officiated at the services which were followed by burial in the church cemetery. During the services Mrs. Elaine Alm, organist, accompanied Mrs. Lorraine packer, who sang "Amazing Grace" and "Have Thine Own Way Lord." Pallbearers were Claire Sheridan, Lester Dacha, Ed Lundgren, Earl Powers, Elmer Benson, and Lyle Melius, all of the American Legion. Relatives and friends attended the funeral from Cleveland, Ohio, Shawano, Green Bay, Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point, Jump River, Blanchardville, Amherst, Antigo, Amherst Junction, Milwaukee, Chicago, Iola, New Hope and Nelsonville.

Notes for JOHN (GRANT) THOMPSON: Stevens Point Journal Monday, May 17, 1999 Obituary John Thompson John Thompson, 44, Poplar Lane, Mountain, died at his home, Saturday, Mat 15, 1999, following a short illness. Friends may call at St. Michael's Catholic Church Chapel, Chute Pond, at 1 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services which follow at 4 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in Mountain Cemetery at a later date. The Gruetzmacher Funeral Home, Suring, is in charge of arrangements. John was born April 6, 1955, in Stevens Point, to the late Emil and Jeanette (Waiter) Thompson. John married Karen McInness on April 28, 1984. He was co-owner of the Everbreeze Resort on Chute Pond with his brother Gary, from 1980 until presently. John was an avid fisherman and had belonged to The 3B Trap Club. He had been employed as a Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association referee for girls volley ball and boys basketball. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Karen, include two brothers and their families; Gary Thompson and special friend Doreen Leisner, Mountain, and Ole (Kelly) Thompson, Amherst; two sisters and their families, Ginger (Carl) Megal, Amherst, and Gayle (Fred) Maves, Plover; his mother and father-in-law, Mary (Jim) McInness, Suring; three sisters-in-law, Ellen and special friend, Kelly Flynn, Mountain, Sharon (Ken) Holmes, Green Bay, and Katie (Dave) Lersner, Pound. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many close friends. John was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Brett Megal.
