Obituary

Steve L. Okoneski

Steve L. Okoneski, 75, 1032 W. River Drive, died Thursday at St. Michael's Hospital, where he had been a patient the past two weeks. He had been ill the past three months.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with the Rev. Chester Osowski officiating. Burial will be in Guardian angel Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday at the Dzikoski Funeral Home. American Legion Post No. 6, Disabled American Veterans and Portage County Voiture, 40 et 8 will hold a combined ritual at 7 p.m. Sunday followed by a general rosary at 7:30.

Mr. Okoneski was born July 27, 1907, in Stevens Point, a son of Mr. and Mrs. August Okoneski. He attended St. Peter's and Grant Schools and entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 9, 1942, serving as a sergeant with Battalion A, 500th Field Artillery Battalion, in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters of World War II. He received Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals. He was discharged from service on Oct. 25, 1945.

He married Regina Hicks on Nov. 5, 1960, at St. Peter's Church and settled in Stevens Point. He retired from Weber Tackle Co. in 1970 after working there a number of years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Charlotte Soderboom and Delores Bayer, both of Caspian, Mich.; five step-daughters, Mrs. Dolores Street, Ontario, Calif., Mrs. Chester (Elizabeth) Tokarski, South Milwaukee, Mary Hicks, 1032 W. River Drive, Mrs. William (Vivian) Bemowski, 1016 W. River Drive, Mrs. Otto (Donna) Mueller, Long Beach, Calif.; three step-sons, Gerald Hicks, Wausau, Leon Hicks, Poway, Calif., and Deloyd Hicks, 404 Chippewa Drive, Plover; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Jerzak, 100 Forest St., and Mrs. Mary Eckman, 625 Portage St.; 31 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers, and three step-grandchildren.

Mrs. Regina (Hicks) Okoneski

Mrs. Regina (Hicks) Okoneski, 75, 1032 W. River Drive, died Sunday morning at home. She had been ill for two months.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with the Rev. Chester Osowski officiating. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at Dzikoski Funeral Home. A ritual will be held at 7 p.m. by the auxiliaries of Disabled American Veterans and American Legion Post No. 6, both of which she was a member. A general rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Mrs. Okoneski was born June 23, 1908, in the town of Eau Pleine, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Leo Borski. She attended school in the town of Eau Pleine. She was married to B.B. Hicks, June 26, 1928, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Chicago. The couple lived in Chicago for a few years, then moved to Junction City where they lived for four years before settling in Stevens Point. Mr. Hicks died Dec. 16, 1958. She was married to Steve Okoneski Nov. 5, 1960. He died Jan. 27.

She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Delores Street, Ontario, Calif., Mrs. Chester (Elizabeth) Tokarski, South Milwaukee, Mary Hicks, 1032 W. River Drive, Mrs. William (Vivian) Bemowski, 1016 W. River Drive, and Mrs. Otto (Donna) Mueller, Long Beach, Calif.; three sons, Gerald Hicks, Wausau, Leon Hicks, Poway, Calif., and DeLoyd Hicks, 404 Chippewa Ave.; 27 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Cecilia Lesavich, 1300 Briggs St., and Mrs. Kay Kossak, Rolling Meadows, Ill.; and two brothers, Valentine Borski, palatine, Ill., and Michael Borski, Rolling Meadows, Ill. She was preceded in death by two infant daughters, three grandchildren and three sisters.
