Obituary

A lifelong resident of Portage County, Frank B. Singer, 74, whose home was on Wisconsin St., Plover, died suddenly Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Singer was stricken at his home at 4:30 o'clock and was taken to St, Michael's Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival at 5:10. He had been in ill health for the past two months and prior to that was active.

Mr. Singer was born on Dec. 4, 1893, in the Town of Sharon, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Singer. As a child he moved with his parents to a farm in the Town of Grant.

A veteran of World War I, Mr. Singer enlisted in Navy service on April 19, 1917, in Milwaukee, and served for two years and three months. He was a gunner's mate on the USS Battleship Oklahoma. He was discharged in August 1919.

His marriage to Mary Shopinski took place on May 11, 1920, at St. Bronislava's Catholic Church, Plover. Following their marriage, the couple settled in Plover.

Mr. Singer was employed by the Stevens Point Pulp and Paper Co. for 10 years. He then served as custodian at St. Bronislava's Church, Plover, until his retirement about a year ago.

His wife died on June 29, 1966.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Kathryn) Zinda, 3301 Minnesota Ave.; two sons, John Singer, 3265 Church St., and Ray Singer, Town of Plover; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three brothers, Louis and Leo Singer, Milwaukee, and Henry, Plover, and nine sisters, Mrs. Frank (Frances) Shopinski, 1748 Water St., Mrs. Susan Winkelman, Ormsby, Minn., Mrs. Martha Ryan, Minneapolis, Mrs. John (Regina) Raschka, Town of Hull, Mrs. Frank (Bernice) Raschka, 2825 Minnesota Ave., Mrs. Johanna Kedrowski, Wisconsin Rapids, and Mrs, Walter (Margaret) Seiczka, Mrs. Edmund (Belvina) Worzella and Mrs. Claude (Catherine) Franks, Milwaukee.

Preceding him in death besides his wife and parents were a daughter in infancy and a sister.

Singer Funeral

The Rev. Francis Przybylski officiated at a requiem high mass Wednesday for the funeral of Frank B. Singer, Wisconsin Street, Plover, who died suddenly Sunday afternoon.

The 10 a.m. services were held at St. Bronislava's Catholic Church, Plover. Burial will take place later in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were James, Ronald and Robert Zinda, George and Leo Shopinski, and Jerry Kedrowski.

The Holy Name Society of the church attended the rites in a group. Others came from Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Rapids, Janesville and the Stevens Point and Plover areas.

Obituary

Mrs. Frank Singer

Mrs. Frank Singer, 69, died at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday at St, Michael's Hospital, where she had been a patient since March.

She lived on Washington Ave. in Plover.

Born in Milwaukee, Dec. 6, 1896, she was the former Mary Shopinski, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Shopinski.

She attended school in Plover and was married at St. Bronislava's Catholic Church on May 11, 1920, to Mr. Singer.

Mrs. Singer was employed by the Weber Tackle Co. for 13 years until her retirement eight years ago.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Kathryn) Zinda, 12200 Park St.; two sons, John 3265 Church St., and Ray, Route 1, Stevens Point; three brothers, Vincent Shopinski, Schiller Park, Ill., Max Shopinski, 408 2nd St., and Frank Shopinski, 1748 Water St.; five grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

A daughter, three brothers, and three sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Bronislava's Catholic Church, with burial in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call now at the Dzikoski Funeral Home.

At 7:30 this evening, a ritual will be conducted at the funeral home by the Auxiliary to Plash-Platt Post No 543, American Legion, of Plover. Mrs. Singer was a member.

A general rosary will be said at 8, and the parish Rosary Society, of which she was a member, will recite the rosary at 8:30.

John W. Singer

John W. Singer, 75, Sayner, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Sayner. The Rev. Michael Crisp will officiate.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Cambell Funeral Home, Woodruff.

John was an employee of Consolidated Papers for many years where he was a lift truck driver.

He was a member of many groups and associations, including Sayner Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 15051, and a life member of American Legion Berens-Scribner Post No. 6 of Stevens Point. He was a life member of Portage County Voiture No. 83140 & 8, where he was a grand chef, and also a member of Stevens Point Elks Club No. 641.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie Singer, of Sayner, and his brother, Ray Singer.

He was preceded in death by his sister Katherine Zinda.
