Obituary

Herman Firkus

Herman (Harry) Firkus, 51, of 3230 Minnesota Ave., died Sunday morning at St. Joseph's Hospital at Marshfield. He had been in ill health for the past several months and had been hospitalized intermittently during that time.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Burial will be made in Guardian Angel Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Shuda Funeral Chapel after 2 p.m. Tuesday. Members of St. Hedwig's Court No. 745, National Order of Foresters, will pray the rosary there Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m., followed by a general rosary at 8 o'clock. Mrs. Firkus is a member of the court.

Mr. Firkus was born on May 2, 1918, in Stevens Point, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Firkus. He entered military service in World War II on June 23, 1942. He was a technical sergeant, and he was with the combat infantry in the European Theater, earning battle stars for the campaigns in Central Europe, Northern France and the Rhineland in Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged on Nov. 3, 1945, at Camp Chaffee, Ark.

Following his discharge from service, he returned to Stevens Point and began employment at the Wisconsin River Division of Consolidated Papers Inc. He retired due to ill health in May 1969.

He is survived by his wife, the former Jean Ksionsk, whom he married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Polonia on Sept. 21, 1948; two sons, James, at Hunter Army Air Field in Georgia, and Jerry, at home; three daughters, Susan, Sharon and Carla, all at home, and three sisters, Mrs. Walter (Grace) Kieliszewski, 2336 Sims Ave., Mrs. Anton (Jean) Schilka, Chicago, and Mrs. Emil (Evelyn) Perzinski, Arnott.

Firkus Funeral

Funeral services were held at St. Stephens Catholic Church Wednesday morning for Herman (Harry) Firkus, 3220 Minnesota Ave., who died Sunday morning.

The Rev. Thomas E. Mullen was the celebrant of the requiem mass, and he also officiated at burial services in Guardian Angel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Albert Zinda, Edmund Domka, Leroy Kropidlowski, Jerome Schulfer, John Repinski and Larry Moleski.

Persons from out of town who attended came from Hunter Army Air Field, Ga., Chicago, Milwaukee, Port Edwards, Wisconsin Rapids, and the Stevens Point area.
